Lt Gen Manoj Pande Biography: Lt. Gen. Manoj Pande has been appointed as the next chief of the Indian Army. He succeeded General Manoj Mukund Naravane, who retired on April 30, 2022. He is the first officer from the Corps of Engineers to become the Chief of Army Staff (COAS). The post has previously been occupied by infantry, armoured, and artillery corps.
The defence officials told news agency ANI that "The government has decided to appoint Lieutenant General Manoj Pande as the next chief of army staff."
Recently, India's new Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Pande in an interview with ANI news agency said, "We are very clear that we will not permit any change in the status quo and any loss of territory [at the India-China border].” He further stated that the situation at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is normal at present.
