Lt Gen Manoj Pande Biography: Lieutenant General Manoj Pande has been appointed as the next chief of the Indian Army. He is the first engineer to hold the top military post. Lt Gen Manoj Pande Biography: Lt. Gen. Manoj Pande has been appointed as the next chief of the Indian Army. He succeeded General Manoj Mukund Naravane, who retired on April 30, 2022. He is the first officer from the Corps of Engineers to become the Chief of Army Staff (COAS). The post has previously been occupied by infantry, armoured, and artillery corps.

The defence officials told news agency ANI that "The government has decided to appoint Lieutenant General Manoj Pande as the next chief of army staff."

Recently, India's new Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Pande in an interview with ANI news agency said, "We are very clear that we will not permit any change in the status quo and any loss of territory [at the India-China border].” He further stated that the situation at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is normal at present. "Our troops are holding important physical positions. The unilateral and provocative actions by our adversary to change the status quo by force, I feel have been adequately responded to."In December 1982, Lt. Gen. Manoj Pande was commissioned to the Corps of Engineers (The Bombay Sappers). An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Lt Gen Manoj Pande took over as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff on 1 February 2022 from Lt. Gen. Mohanty who superannuated on 31 January.During Operation Parakram, he commanded an Engineer Regiment in the sensitive Pallianwala Sector along with the Line of Control of Jammu and Kashmir. DRDO’s scientists make 'rat cyborgs' for security forces’ intelligence surveillance

The Young Scientist Laboratory of the premier R&D facility Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is currently developing "rat cyborgs” whose goal is to assist security forces with recovery operations and intelligence gathering. During a session of the World Science Congress, P Shiva Prasad, Director of the DRDO's Young Scientist Laboratory (DYSL-AT), stated that the rat cyborgs will have cameras mounted on their heads.
